KVHA 12U Ravens Teams having some "Serious Fun"

The KVHA Ravens show some strength and depth with two 12U teams for the Fall 2011-12 Season.  These Teams are made up of birth year 1999, 2000, and a handful of 2001 Players.

Our 12U Program is producing strong Players, developing individual skills and creating lasting relationships in a positive Team environment.

Team Philosophy

We believe the primary focus should be to develop each and every player. Hockey provides a unique opportunity to teach the benefits of hard work, discipline, teamwork and commitment.  It is our goal to encourage these and other positive personality traits so that these players grow up to be happy, healthy and successful. It is our goal to provide competent instruction in a FUN and safe environment where players can take risks and make mistakes while playing the best game on the planet.

The current Ravens know “Attitude” is everything and that positive attitude breed’s success.  If we can build the confidence and skill level of all our Players, it will allow our skaters and the team to achieve their greatest potential.  This will produce extraordinary levels of “Synergy”.   A Team with this level of Synergy is extremely hard to beat.  This Synergy demonstrates the true power and true spirit of teamwork and ultimately wins games and Championships!

12U Ravens Players

Ravens Receive Medals at Waterloo, CAN Tournament

The 12U Ravens Players are a motivated, determined, yet diverse group of skaters.  The current Ravens 12U Teams (Tier II & III) are made up of birth year Players from 1999, & 2000, along with a few super talented 2001’s.

Quote from Ravens Travel Player/Family - “Coach Tom does an awesome job with the Ravens. He has a unique way of getting the team to work hard without realizing they are actually working. Tom takes the time to work on individual skills to help each player excel and perform to the best of their ability”.

Practice

The 12U Ravens Teams have two 1.5 hour sessions per week at the Kensington Valley Ice House in Brighton.  One session is on a weeknight, the other on a weekend day.  As the season progresses, the weeknight session is typically a practice and the weekend sheet is usually used for a game.
You will see some traditional practice drills designed to teach game strategy such as breakouts, forechecking, and penalty kill, but you will also see some very unusual activity on our ice as well.  Our practice structure combines fun games and drills designed to develop skills while maximizing fun.  Along with standard skills and drills, we run Player vs. Player relay races, Coach vs. Player challenges as well as obstacle courses and Player vs. Player challenge games.  Our Players gain hockey skills through these fun games without the drudgery usually seen in typical hockey practices.  We keep things fresh with many different practices designs by various 12U Ravens Coaches.

Elite Training @ Puckmasters

Ravens on Skating Treadmill at Puckmasters

One night a week for 1.5 hours, the 12U KVHA Ravens Teams invade the Puckmasters Elite Hockey Training center in Wixom.  The focus here, Skill Development and Team Building.
We have the entire facility to ourselves to focus on: Skating Stride Training on the Skating Treadmill (with a specialized Puckmasters Stride Trainer), Stick Handling, Shooting (Rapid Shot), Chalk Talk and Goalie Specific training.  We spend time playing 3 v 3 games on the small sheet of ice to increase the amount of puck touches and allow for player creativity. This structure is all in line with the ADM Model of USA Hockey.

Games

Game action vs. Belle Tire

Our 12U Ravens Teams play games against the other 12U Girls Teams in the Metro Detroit Area.  This has included the Suburban Ice Breakers, Mt. Clemens Wolves, Little Caesars, Ann Arbor Cougars, Victory Honda, Sarnia Jr. Lady Sting, Gross Pointe Bulldogs, Grand Rapids, St Clair Shores Saintes, Birmingham Pink Wings, Livonia Knights, DSC Wildflowers, and Lansing Capitals.  We have also played against various Boys Teams.

Tournaments

Ravens heading to Canada

In November of 2010, we attended a prestigious all Girls Tournament in Waterloo, Canada where we brought home a Bronze medal in our Division.  There were 94 Girls Teams at the Tournament in total.  This Tournament is expected to be an annual event for our Team, due to the high level of play and the mass quantity of fun for all (including those Crazy Ravens Parents).

Our Spring Season is likely to include one Local Girls Tournament if one is made available.

Coaching

The Coaching Staff of the 12U Ravens Teams are USA Hockey Level III Certified.  Most of these Coaches also Coach on Boys Tier II Travel Teams.  Our Coaching Staff of Eight Full-time Coaches are dedicated to developing individual skills, teaching hockey knowledge, zone based strategies, and game strategies in a fun and positive environment.

The 12U Ravens Coaching staff is supplemented by E2 Hockey Training Coaches who run at least one skills based on-ice practice per month.  www.e2hockey.com

Quote from an actual Ravens Coach – “In all my years as a Coach, this has been one of the most rewarding Coaching experiences in my life.  We are having a ton of fun”

Goalie Specific Training

Ravens Goalie Training Session

All great Travel Teams have Goalie Specific Training in order to focus on this unique and critical position on the team.  Our goalies have a full-time goalie Coach dedicated to technical skill development.  Our Goalie program is based upon contemporary techniques taught within the guidelines of the USA Hockey National Team Goalie Development Program (NTDP).

Our philosophy is simple, all saves made within the core of the body are optimal and all saves made outside the core of the body are not preferred.

We teach fundamental skills in a fun and positive environment that deliver results.

Ravens Parents

Ravens Super-Fantastic Parents!

These are the folks that make it all happen behind the scenes.  The early mornings, the late nights, the driving, the skate tying, the skate sharpening, the ice bills, and those pricey composite sticks.  These are some of the most dedicated unsung heroes you will ever know.  The sleep overs, and birthday parties, dressing the Players in the smelly locker rooms, the ice, the early games in Taylor on a snowy weeknight, the out of town Tournaments, the Hotels, and carrying those coolers in various shapes and sizes so as not to look like coolers.
These hard working Ravens Parents get the Ravens wherever they need to be and make it all happen.  They are Fantastic and they give us all the opportunity to enjoy the great game of Hockey while making friends for a lifetime.  They form a superior support structure that is quickly building a Girls Hockey Program which is second to none.

Actual Ravens Parent Survivor: “I cannot believe what a difference I see in the girls across the board (no pun intended.)  From the goalies on up these girls talent level has made remarkable strides forward. Our Player in particular has made amazing leaps in ability.  Most importantly however, for our Player, (and I am sure for all of the girls), she is having a blast.  Our Player smiles a lot, but the grin gets even wider when it comes time to head to the rink.  The friendships she is forming and the fun these girls are having together I am sure will produce friendships and memories that will last a lifetime”.

Another Patient Ravens Parent:  I have served in the Navy and played several sports on a competitive level and I have not seen a more outstanding group of guys leading and directing any group of people at any level.  I am truly proud of my daughter and this team and it is all because of you (THE COACHES). So once again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
