Hello Hockey Family,
I wanted to share with you that one of our KVHA alumni is currently in the LEAD in the first round of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award voting. This award is the Heisman of college hockey.
Colin Bilek is from Brighton and got his start playing for the 97 Rebels from 2001-2010 before going to Brighton High School. Colin continued to play Juniors before enrolling at Army West Point where he is a junior.
Fan votes can be placed at www.hobeybaker.com/vote through March 8. You can vote once a day to keep Colin in the lead.
Three other area players are in the running for the award: Attard (White Lake), Pietila (Howell), and Carlile (Hartland). Unfortunately our alumni list is still in its infancy so I am not sure if they played at Kensington Valley in their early years.
In additional alumni news, alumni Kurt Gosselin, has been back in Brighton as his ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones opted-out of their season due to COVID concerns. Kurt has been helping with the Brighton High School teams and we look forward to taking advantage of his break as well. Next month, Kurt will make a guest appearance at our Learn-to-Play program to let these youngsters show off what they have learned. Into the spring, Kurt will be helping us set up some training opportunities (getting lessons from a pro hockey player will be amazing for our kids).
I'm proud of all that our current and former players have endured through the pandemic. For more updates on alumni players, or if you know of anyone that we should have on our radar, please checkout the alumni page on our website.
The answer is that KV is where hockey begins, the question is...who's next?
