KVHA Updates, Coaching Evaluations, Board of Director Applications & more

By KVHA, 01/24/22, 12:30PM EST

We are excited for another playoff season, but while there is still a lot of hockey left, the planning never ends!  As we head toward the upcoming Spring and tryout season, please take a moment to review this email for news and information.

We are happy to announce that Kensington Valley Hockey Association was selected by MAHA to host the Squirt B, A and AA State Finals.    During the weekend of March 4-6, we will have 24 teams at the Squirt B, A and AA divisions competing for the State Championship!

Hosting the event is a large undertaking and we will be seeking volunteers to make this event a success.   There are many opportunities for hands on help during the games, such as player check-in, announcing, time keeping and more.   It is a great opportunity to give back while watching some great hockey.   Please be on the lookout for another email soon with additional information and volunteer sign ups.

If you are a local business owner and wish to sponsor our tournament brochure or wish to provide coupons/flyers for our tournament swag bag, please reach out to  For as little as $25 you can place an ad in the brochure.

Please take a few moments to reflect and provide feedback about the coaching staff on your child’s team via the KVHA coaching Evaluation Form, which can be found here: .

If you lose track of this email, you can find the survey on our home page:

These evaluations are very important and are used as a tool to help the KVHA Board assess how teams are doing from a coaching perspective and help us determine whether we have the best possible coaches in place to aid in the continual development of our players and to ensure an overall positive experience for our families.   The results of the survey are shared with the coaches anonymously for them to see where they are doing well and for them to address areas for improvement.

We are also in the process of planning for next season.  If you are seeking to coach a Travel or Girl’s team with KVHA, please complete the application located here:

We are fortunate that our Travel and Girls hockey programs continue to grow and, while we do not have open coaching positions at every level, there may be openings coming or we may have the ability to create new teams if we have the player and coaches to support them.   If you are interested, please apply before February 1, 2022.

It is that time again when the Association looks to its members to find candidates to become directors of the KVHA Board.   The Board is responsible for the overall program and the policies and procedures of the Association.    Directors volunteer their time and talent to promote the sport of youth hockey for the benefit of the players, their families, and our local community.   They meet once per month throughout the year and assist with Try Hockey for Free, House conditioning/evaluation/draft skates, District/State Tournaments and more.

Candidate declarations will be emailed/posted on the KVHA website after February 15th and provided to members via email.   Voting takes place the first week in March and the new members of the board are announced at the annual board meeting, which is on March 21st, this season.    Normally, nominations are for two-year terms beginning in March of 2022.  This season we have three 2-year terms and one 1-year term.   For those who have a passion for hockey, this is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to one of the largest hockey Associations in the country and further advance the goals of our association.  If you wish to be considered for the KVHA Board please apply now:

Applications will be accepted now through February 14.

If you know any families with kids ages 3-9 who would like to Try Hockey, we are hosting our next event on Wednesday March 9th at 545pm.

Please pass this along.  We are making exciting changes to our house program for next season and are looking for the next generation of hockey players and families to make it possible!

Spring house programs will start the week of April 4th.

We are going to have leagues for all levels of play (Mini Mite through Bantam, if possible) with jamboree, half ice, cross ice and full ice games.

Additionally, we are excited to bring back Made in Michigan Skills Training.

Spring program information will be available at on February 14th.

The 2022/2023 tryout dates have been set as

Monday March 21 for birth years 2013 through 2008 / Girls 12U and younger

Wednesday April 6 for birth years 2007 through 2004 / Girls 14U and older

More regarding tryouts and rules can be found on MAHA’s website:

We are currently in the process of scheduling dates with coaches, but nothing will be posted until March 1, 2022 to allow us to finalize the new incoming teams and to allow existing teams time to get through the first round of playoffs.   When the dates are posted, you will be able to find them here:

Best of luck to those teams who have moved on to the 2nd round of districts and good luck to all on your run through the playoffs.
