Happy Holidays KVHA Families!
As we head into the new year, please take a few moments to reflect and provide feedback about the coaching staff on your child’s team via the KVHA coaching Evaluation Form, which can be found here: https://kvha.formstack.com/forms/2021_2022_kvha_mid_season_coach_evaluation .
If you lose track of this email, you can find the survey on our home page: www.kvhockey.org.
These evaluations are very important and are used as a tool to help the KVHA Board assess how teams are doing from a coaching perspective and help us determine whether we have the best possible coaches in place to aid in the continual development of our players and to ensure an overall positive experience for our families. The results of the survey are shared with the coaches anonymously for them to see where they are doing well and for them to address areas for improvement.
Additionally, we are in the process of planning for Spring and the 2022-2023 season!
If you are seeking to coach a Travel or Girl’s team with KVHA this season, please complete the application located here: https://kvha.formstack.com/forms/2022_2023_travel_coach_application
We are fortunate that our Travel and Girls hockey programs continue to grow and, while we do not have open coaching positions at every level, there may be openings coming or we may have the ability to create new teams if we have the player and coaches to support them. If you are interested, please apply before February 1.
And finally, it’s that time again when the Association looks to its members to find candidates to become directors of the KVHA Board. The Board is responsible for the overall program and the policies and procedures of the Association. Directors volunteer their time and talent to promote the sport of youth hockey for the benefit of the players, their families, and our local community. They meet once per month throughout the year and assist with Try Hockey for Free, House conditioning/evaluation/draft skates, District/State Tournaments and more.
The voting process will begin Mid-February. Candidate declarations will be emailed/posted on the KVHA website and provided to members via email. Normally, nominations are for two-year terms beginning in March of 2022. This season we have three 2 year terms and one 1 year term. For those who have a passion for hockey, this is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to one of the largest hockey Associations in the country and further advance the goals of our association. If you wish to be considered for the KVHA Board please apply now:
Applications will be accepted now through February 1st.
We are thankful for a normal season of hockey this year and grateful to all of you for being part of our KVHA family. We wish you a year of peace, good health, happiness, and success,
To those of you who played at KVHA last season, we sincerely appreciate and thank you for a wonderful season despite all of the challenges. We are excited to see all of our families on the ice for another great season of KVHA Hockey!
Registration for the upcoming season will open on June 1st. ALL players (house, girls and travel) must register to be placed on their team's roster.
We have tiered registration with early reduced pricing from June 1-June 30 ($185); July 1-July 31 ($235) then full registration price after August 1st, ($285).
At KVHA we do a great job fulfilling our role as a true non-profit and making hockey as affordable as we can. Your registration fees are used for the following expenses throughout the season:
We recommend registering early to ensure that your child has a spot on a house team and to take advantage of the conditioning skates at the beginning of the season, which will prepare your child for the draft skates.
The target start date for the House Conditioning skates is July 25 and these skates give your player a chance to get back on the ice a few times and make sure all of their equipment fits before the draft or rate skates, which are held the first two weeks in August. The draft or evaluations skates are where the association is able to rate players to create even talented teams. The evaluators rate players based on different skills. These ratings will be combined to arrive at an average rating to be used in the draft.
The draft for teams is the 3rd week of August. At the draft, the coaches use those evaluations to select teams. Players who miss the evaluations skates will be assigned to teams after the draft based on their registration date, continuing in line with the team order used in the draft. This is done to avoid over/under evaluating these players. Siblings are placed on the same team.
House teams will start skating around Labor day weekend and the season goes until Mid-March.
Our House programs are as follows and all amounts quoted are from last season the 2021/2022 ice rates will be finalized soon:
Biggby Hockey for ages 8 & under

With program structure all of the kids will get to know each other over the course of the season and will create lifelong friendships
Mini Mite (age 5 & 6 - birth years 2015 or later) and Mites (age 7 & 8 - birth years 2014/2013) - Teams play other KVHA teams and only skate on the weekends with ice times in the morning or afternoon; Ice time is 50 minutes; Practices are on Saturday and games on Sunday; Games begin mid-October or once jerseys arrive; Teams can enter tournaments or jamborees but this is an additional expense for parents that is not included in the monthly ice fee, which was $139/month for Mini Mites and $157/month for Mites last season.
For the 8 & Under programs, KVHA allows players to request to play with a friend. Conditions do apply, so please review the form and instructions here or you can find more information on our registration info page.

The ice times will be at Brighton or Hartland; Teams can enter tournaments but this is an additional expense for parents that is not included in the monthly fee, which was $303/month last season.
For all of the House divisions, we allow players to "play-up" a division (Squirt to PeeWee, for example), if it is developmentally appropriate. Parents can find out more and complete a request to play up here.
There really is no way to determine how many teams we will have next season, as it varies from year to year based on how many kids register, how many are moving up from one division to another, how many kids make the jump from house to travel, and how many coaches we have to fill the spots. We will add as many teams as we need if we have kids and coaches to support it. If you are interested in becoming a coach, the coaching application has been posted on www.kvhockey.org or HERE
Please email email@example.com if you have more questions or would like additional information.
Thank you once again for being a part of the KVHA Family this season and being committed to the growth and development of your child, not only on the ice, but off the ice as well!! We look forward to seeing you next season.
