Dear KV Family,
What a great weekend for teams representing the association in Districts Finals. Congratulations to the Midget Minor Rebels, 2007 Rebels, 2008 Rebels, 2009 Raiders, and 2011 Renegades for being crowned District 4 Champions!
For those who are new to the association and hockey, this is a major accomplishment and means that each of these teams move on to represent Kensington Valley in the State Championships. Several of our Ravens teams will also be playing in their State Championship series in the next few weeks as well.
Speaking of State Championships, we will be hosting the Squirt B, Squirt A, and Squirt AA State Championships on March 4-6 in Brighton. I invite everyone to come to watch some excellent hockey and support our teams. Hosting States is a large undertaking with 24 teams coming from all over the state. We could always use extra help loading swag bags, checking teams in, penalty box attendants, giving directions around the rink, running fresh pucks and score sheets (yes, we hope to have commemorative pucks to use), or simply being available to give out of town guests dinner recommendations. Michelle will be sending a sign-up genius later this week. Congratulations is also due to our Squirt B Destroyers and 2012 Renegades teams who will advance to States as the Host Teams.
While we were represented well on the ice throughout Districts, I must remind everyone that sportsmanship and following the code of conduct are equally as important. Players, parents, relatives, and friends are responsible for the reputation of our association and are expected to represent our hockey family in the best light. Not congratulating outside teams after a loss, damaging locker room property, or challenging and taunting tournament officials is not appropriate behavior. They make our association look bad and take away from the spotlight that our players should be enjoying.
Thank you and my best regards to all of the teams, players, and families that will be representing us in their quest to become State Champions. Let’s bring back some banners!
We are excited for another playoff season, but while there is still a lot of hockey left, the planning never ends! As we head toward the upcoming Spring and tryout season, please take a moment to review this email for news and information.
We are happy to announce that Kensington Valley Hockey Association was selected by MAHA to host the Squirt B, A and AA State Finals. During the weekend of March 4-6, we will have 24 teams at the Squirt B, A and AA divisions competing for the State Championship!
Hosting the event is a large undertaking and we will be seeking volunteers to make this event a success. There are many opportunities for hands on help during the games, such as player check-in, announcing, time keeping and more. It is a great opportunity to give back while watching some great hockey. Please be on the lookout for another email soon with additional information and volunteer sign ups.
If you are a local business owner and wish to sponsor our tournament brochure or wish to provide coupons/flyers for our tournament swag bag, please reach out to Michelle, office@kvhockey.org. For as little as $25 you can place an ad in the brochure.
KVHA COACHING EVALUATIONS
Please take a few moments to reflect and provide feedback about the coaching staff on your child’s team via the KVHA coaching Evaluation Form, which can be found here: https://kvha.formstack.com/forms/2021_2022_kvha_mid_season_coach_evaluation .
If you lose track of this email, you can find the survey on our home page: www.kvhockey.org.
These evaluations are very important and are used as a tool to help the KVHA Board assess how teams are doing from a coaching perspective and help us determine whether we have the best possible coaches in place to aid in the continual development of our players and to ensure an overall positive experience for our families. The results of the survey are shared with the coaches anonymously for them to see where they are doing well and for them to address areas for improvement.
TRAVEL/GIRLS COACHING APPLICATION 2022-2023
We are also in the process of planning for next season. If you are seeking to coach a Travel or Girl’s team with KVHA, please complete the application located here:
https://kvha.formstack.com/forms/2022_2023_travel_coach_application
We are fortunate that our Travel and Girls hockey programs continue to grow and, while we do not have open coaching positions at every level, there may be openings coming or we may have the ability to create new teams if we have the player and coaches to support them. If you are interested, please apply before February 1, 2022.
BOARD of DIRECTOR APPLICATIONS
It is that time again when the Association looks to its members to find candidates to become directors of the KVHA Board. The Board is responsible for the overall program and the policies and procedures of the Association. Directors volunteer their time and talent to promote the sport of youth hockey for the benefit of the players, their families, and our local community. They meet once per month throughout the year and assist with Try Hockey for Free, House conditioning/evaluation/draft skates, District/State Tournaments and more.
Candidate declarations will be emailed/posted on the KVHA website after February 15th and provided to members via email. Voting takes place the first week in March and the new members of the board are announced at the annual board meeting, which is on March 21st, this season. Normally, nominations are for two-year terms beginning in March of 2022. This season we have three 2-year terms and one 1-year term. For those who have a passion for hockey, this is a tremendous opportunity to contribute to one of the largest hockey Associations in the country and further advance the goals of our association. If you wish to be considered for the KVHA Board please apply now:

Best of luck to those teams who have moved on to the 2nd round of districts and good luck to all on your run through the playoffs.
